Bimatoprost, or generic Latisse, is a prescription treatment for inadequate or sparse eyelashes. Since it is a prostaglandin, it is used topically (on the skin). Bimatoprost promotes eyelash development by prolonging the follicle's anagen phase. This results in longer eyelashes since the eyelashes spend more time in the growth phase. Bimatoprost might make your eyelashes thicker by increasing the amount of developing hair follicles.
Bimatoprost doesn't just make your lashes longer and thicker; it also makes them darker. The pigment melanin, which gives hair its color, is produced at a higher rate after treatment with bimatoprost. Once daily, at the base of the top eyelashes, apply a thin line of generic Latisse. The full benefits of bimatoprost may not be apparent for up to 12 weeks.
Redness, itching, and swelling of the eyelids are the most often reported adverse reactions to generic Latisse. Eyelid skin darkening, iris hyperpigmentation, and altered eye color are some additional potential adverse effects. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not use generic Latisse. People with glaucoma or uveitis, for example, should likewise avoid using it.
